The other day when I was journaling the phrase “less trying, more trusting” came into my mind. This spoke to my heart as I have personally been struggling with negative thoughts. It seemed the more I focused on the problem and tried in my own strength to fight it, the more the issue was magnified. I felt God nudging me to leave the issue in his hands and trust Him.
I love how Joyce Meyer says that when we have issues in our life that need to be dealt with we can still enjoy our life while God is working on our problems. After all we cannot overcome anything in our own strength, it is only through rest and trust and God’s enabling that the victory comes.
Progress sometimes comes a little at a time but day by day we return to the Lord and rest and He shall be our strength through it all. I love the following verse:
“In returning and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be your strength” (Isaiah 30:15).
I watched a YouTube video today that talked about the Christian life being born out of a place of rest. For us who believe, Jesus has secured our salvation through his sacrifice on the cross, resurrection and conquering of death. We can rest secure in our salvation and our day to day lives are lived out of a place of rest and security not a place of striving.
If you are feeling worn out today from fighting let the Lord refresh you. His presence is revitalising and provides everything we need. Let these words wash over your soul:
“And He said, My presence will go with you and I will give you rest” (Exodus 33:14).
