Imagination

“Imagination is more important than knowledge” – Albert Einstein

Do you remember what it was like to be a child and have an endless vivid imagination. Children dream for the impossible and have no sense of “being realistic” or the limitations that adults place on themselves. As we grow older we lose that ability to dream, that ability to be enthusiastic and creative about our future.

The images we form in our mind precede our actions. Every action that we perform we have a visual image of completing that action. If we want a coffee, we imagine it first. If we go to the supermarket to get the groceries we have an image or vision in our mind of it first. When we imagine studies have shown that our minds do not know the difference between the imagined task and actually performing that action.

Our imaginations are tools that can be used to create our future. Olympic athletes and sporting greats successfully practice visualisation techniques before they perform their skills. Studies have shown that this vastly increases the possibility of success.

Just think of the difference it would make to our lives if we began to imagine all the dreams and visions of our lives coming to pass. It is important we spend time praying and dreaming with God and asking him to place our hearts the plans and purposes that He has for our lives. I have been reading a book by Terry Savelle Foy called “Imagine Big” which covers this very topic.

We serve a God that “calls things that are not as though they were” (Romans 4:17).

The Bible also state “you shall decree a thing and it shall be established unto you” (Job 22:28).

In order to decree and call something into being you have to have an idea in your mind what is to be brought into being. This is where imagination comes in.

Can you imagine starting a soup kitchen, losing weight, launching your own business, completing a Bachelor degree, learning a new language, getting married, having children, having a relationship restored or any of the dreams and desires God has placed in your heart? You need to see yourself as already there.

Start dreaming with God today and pray over these dreams and desires. Start speaking faith filled words into these situations and plan to take action as God guides your steps.
